Ralph Kiner jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI at Forbes Field as
the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the pathetic Chicago Cubs by the count of 6 to
4.
Pittsburgh tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. Clyde McCullough
led off and started the rally when he drew a walk. Rip Sewell came next and
he laid down a sacrifice bunt. One out later, Tom Saffell was walked
intentionally. Johnny Hopp followed next and he reached on an error. Kiner
stepped into the box and ripped a one-base hit scoring two teammates. Kiner
took second on the throw. Both teams ended up with 10 hits on the afternoon.
Sewell(4-3) allowed 1 run in 3 innings, and picked up the victory. Doyle
Lade(4-5) was the loser. Pittsburgh now has a record of 50-61. With the
loss, the Chicago ballclub's record is 32-83, worst in the league.
