Left fielder Ted Williams had 5 hits and 4 RBI at Fenway Park as the Boston
Red Sox embarrassed the Detroit Tigers by the lopsided score of 19 to
6.

Williams had a great day at the plate. He had the crowd cheering his every
move. He delivered a one-base hit in the 1st inning, doubled in the 2nd
inning, slapped a base-hit scoring a run in the 3rd inning, delivered a
one-base hit in the 6th inning and clubbed a three-run home run in the 7th
inning. Boston bats were hot in the 1st inning which saw them score 6 runs
on 6 hits and the 7th inning which saw them score 6 runs on 7 hits. Boston
finished with 24 hits while Detroit ended up with 10.

Mickey McDermott(3-3) was the winner allowing 5 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. Art
Houtteman(8-5) suffered the loss. He pitched 1 inning giving up 6 hits and 1
walk.

'Williams led the way - we just jumped on his back and let him take us,'
McDermott said. 'I'm glad I don't have to face him. I'm glad he's on my
team.'
