The Brooklyn Dodgers pounded the Pittsburgh Pirates today, winning by a score of 20-8. It was the most runs scored by any team in this 1949 NL season. Duke Snider (pictured) led the way for Brooklyn by driving in 5 runs. Marv Rackley was 5 for 6 and scored 4 times. Jackie Robinson was 4 for 6 with 4 RBI. The one highlight for the Pirates: Ralph Kiner hit his league leading 34th homerun of the year. The Dodgers out hit Pittsburgh 21-11 and also drew 7 walks in the game.

Center fielder Duke Snider went yard and had 5 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates
were badly beaten by the Brooklyn Dodgers, 20 to 8.
Snider had a big day against Pittsburgh. He belted a three-run homer in the
1st inning and hit a single which brought home a run in the 4th inning.
Brooklyn bats were hot in the 1st inning with 6 runs on 6 hits and the 8th
inning when they had 5 runs on 3 hits. The Brooklyn offense was great,
scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.
Rex Barney(8-2) allowed 7 runs in 5 innings, and picked up the victory. Bob
Chesnes(6-5) took the loss. He pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up 6 hits and
no walks.
