Joe DiMaggio hit 2 homeruns for New York but Boston got back-to-back homers from Ted Williams (his 2nd of the game) and Vern Stephens in the 8th inning, and a 3 run bomb from Bobby Doer in the 9th. The Red Sox won the contest in the 11th when Williams drove in Johnny Pesky from 3rd. Joe Page was the victim of Boston's late onslaught, getting a BS and the Loss.
