1949 AL Game: Bsn. @ St. Louis; Dimaggio Hits for Cycle

July 23, 1949

Boston's Dom Dimaggio became the 1st player to hit for the cycle in this 1949 MLB Season. Boston won the hard fought contest against the St. Louis Browns 10-7 and Dimaggio was a big reason why. Dom got the hardest hit to get, a triple, in his last at bat in the 8th inning.

Dom Dimaggio hit for the cycle and had 2 RBI at Sportsman's Park where the
Boston Red Sox beat the St. Louis Browns 10 to 7.

Dimaggio was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided
much of the offense for the visitors. He laced a one-base hit in the 1st
inning, doubled in the 3rd inning, smashed a two-run homer in the 4th inning
and tripled in the 8th inning. Even though they scored in 5 different
innings, St. Louis was not able to pull off the win.

The victory was credited to Chuck Stobbs(7-3) who went 8 innings, allowing 7
runs. Ellis Kinder recorded the save, his 2nd. The loss was charged to Red
Embree(4-5). He was touched for 10 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.
