1949 NL Game: Brk. @ Phi.

August 11, 1949

  The powerhouse Brooklyn Dodgers put a pasting on the Philadelphia Phillies today, winning by a score of 21-3. It was the most runs scored by any team in MLB this season. Philadelphia has been one of the top 2 teams in terms of pitching excellence this year in the NL. That designation went out the window in the 8th inning tonight when the Dodgers put 17 runs on the scoreboard.

Roy Campanella had 4 hits and 4 RBI as the Brooklyn Dodgers smashed the
overmatched Philadelphia Phillies, 21 to 3.
 
Campanella provided the offensive punch.  He banged out a single in the 5th
inning, lined a one-base hit knocking in a run in the 8th inning, smacked a
three-run homer in the 8th inning and delivered a base-hit in the 9th inning.
Brooklyn kept the scorekeepers busy in the 8th inning which saw them score
17 runs on 15 hits.  Brooklyn ended up with 22 hits for the game while
Philadelphia had 6.  
 
Jack Banta(5-4) allowed 2 runs in 4 innings, and picked up the victory. Blix
Donnelly(2-4) took the loss.  He pitched 7 innings and surrendered 9 hits and
5 walks.
