We're in the dog days of summer and the New York Yankees are still on top of the AL as the calendar turns to August. However, the Yankees were barely above .500 in July, going 14-13. This has allowed the Boston Red Sox who had the best record in July (20-10), and the Cleveland Indians (19-11 in July) to gain considerable ground on New York. My 4th place Detroit Tigers had a decent July (17-14) and inched a little closer to the top spot. The Tigers' run scoring ability has been prolific but their pitching, mainly the bullpen, is among the league's worst. Also of note; the Chicago White Sox seem to be battling the NL's Cubs to see who has the worse team in MLB. Baseball fans in Chicago can't be happy at all.
