As we start today the AL has a different team at the top of the standings. The Boston Red Sox now sit in 1st place in the AL after yesterday's slate of games. The New York Yankees, who had been all alone in 1st since the 4th day of the season, lost to the Detroit Tigers yesterday while the Red Sox were winning against St. Louis. The Cleveland Indians won both games of a doubleheader against Washington and are only 1 game behind Boston.

Right fielder Bob Kennedy blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI as the Cleveland
Indians won in dramatic fashion over the Washington Senators by a score of 10
to 6 at Griffith Stadium.
Cleveland won the game with a rally in the 9th inning scoring 5 runners on 3
hits. The key at-bat was by Joe Gordon who quieted the home crowd when he
lost the ball over the fence for three runs. Washington out-hit Cleveland 11
to 7, but Cleveland ended up with more runs.
Satchel Paige(7-2) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. The
losing pitcher was Dick Weik(4-5). Cleveland scored big getting 9 runs off
him in 8 and 2/3 innings.
'Lou Boudreau was estatic following the game, 'You love stealing one on the
road like this. We just kept plugging away until we pulled it out!'

Bob Feller had a complete game and center fielder Larry Doby went yard and had
2 RBI at Griffith Stadium where the Cleveland Indians beat the Washington
Senators by the score of 5 to 3.
Feller(7-7) pitched a fine game. He went 9 innings surrendering 5 hits and 2
walks. Cleveland banged out 12 hits on the night.
Paul Calvert(4-11) absorbed the loss. He was unable to control the Cleveland
offense and allowed 12 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings.
ST. LOUIS AT BOSTON

Center fielder Dom Dimaggio homered and had 3 RBI and Joe Dobson had a
complete game as the Boston Red Sox defeated the St. Louis Browns 7 to 4 at
Fenway Park.
Boston drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. Dimaggio kicked off the action when he drew a
walk. Joe McCarthy then called for a steal which was successful. After an
out was recorded, Ted Williams then cracked a two-run shot. Boston finished
with 9 hits in the victory.
Dobson(10-6) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 4 runs. Red
Embree(4-6) ended up with the loss. He pitched 8 innings and surrendered 9
hits and 7 walks.
DETROIT AT NEW YORK

Right fielder Vic Wertz had 2 base hits and Fred Hutchinson was able to finish
what he started and was credited with a complete game at Yankee Stadium as
the Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees by the count of 3 to 1.
Detroit came up with 2 runs in the top of the 5th inning. Detroit managed 7
hits in their victory. Hutchinson(10-4) was the winner allowing 1 run for
the game. Vic Raschi(15-5) ended up with the loss.
