August 9, 1949

The New York Yankees traveled to Boston for a big 3 game series between the top 2 teams in the AL. So far this season the 2 clubs were 6-6 against each other. The first game played tonight at Fenway Park was a pitchers duel that saw Vic Raschi and the Yankees prevail over the Red Sox 2-1. The difference in the game proved to be Billy Johnson's 2 run homer in the 7th inning off Ellis Kinder. Raschi got his 16th Win of the season with help from Joe Page who got his AL leading 14th Save of the year. The win pulled New York into a 1st place tie with Boston.

where the New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox by the score of 2 to
1.

New York came up with 2 runs in the 7th inning. The biggest moment was
provided by Johnson who quieted the home crowd when he lifted one out of the

inning.

Vic Raschi(16-5) allowed 1 run in 8 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
