Gene Hermanski had 3 base hits and 5 RBI at Forbes Field as the Brooklyn
Dodgers, running on all cylinders, ripped the Pittsburgh Pirates by a large
17 to 6 margin.
Hermanski was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he
provided much of the offense for the visitors. He banged out a single
scoring two baserunners in the 1st inning, ripped a one-base hit plating a
run in the 3rd inning and doubled which was good for two runs in the 6th
inning. Brooklyn provided plenty of action in the 3rd inning with 6 runs on
4 hits and the 9th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 4 hits. Brooklyn
simply wore out the Pittsburgh pitching staff, scoring in 6 different
innings.
Jack Banta(9-6) went 7 innings allowing 5 runs for the win. Murry
Dickson(5-10) was charged with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 6 hits
and 3 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.
