In a startling finish the New York Yankees staged a comeback then held on to
win over the Boston Red Sox by a score of 3 to 1 at Fenway Park.

New York came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3
runs utilizing 3 base hits. Phil Rizzuto led off and started the rally when
he doubled. Cliff Mapes stepped up next and he reached on an error. Hank
Bauer then singled scoring a single run. After an out was recorded, Billy
Johnson came to the plate and hit a one-base hit with two more runners
crossing home. New York had only 6 hits for the game.

The winning pitcher was Joe Page(10-7) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. Mel
Parnell(22-7) absorbed the loss. He pitched 9 innings giving up only 6 hits
and 1 walk.

Joe McCarthy was not very talkative after his team's tough loss. 'I'm not in
the mood for questions, but I'm sure Casey Stengel will be glad to talk about
the game as long as you have questions to ask.'
