Pittsburgh's Ralph Kiner had a day to remember as the Pirates defeated the 1st place Brooklyn Dodgers 13-8. Kiner really went off at the plate, blasting 4 homeruns, scoring 5 times and collecting 7 RBI in the victory. It was the first 4 homer game for any player this year in MLB. Kiner now has hit a NL leading 52 homeruns this season. He also leads the league in RBI with 130. Even though Brooklyn lost, St. Louis also lost today, reducing the Dodger's magic # to 2.

TEAM RISP- Dodgers: 5 for 11 Pirates: 4 for 7
Ralph Kiner launched 4 homeruns and had 7 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates
defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers 13 to 8 at Forbes Field.
Kiner was a one-man wrecking crew. He smashed a solo-shot out of the park in
the 2nd inning, lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 3rd
inning, popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 5th inning and cracked a
two-run shot in the 8th inning. Pittsburgh had 14 hits for the afternoon.
The victory was credited to Vic Lombardi(8-8) who went 2 and 1/3 innings,
allowing 1 run. Erv Palica(5-3) suffered the loss in relief. He was knocked
around pretty good, giving up 5 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.
'They made a couple of mistakes and I took full advantage,' Kiner said 'next
time I'm sure they'll pitch me tougher.'
