1949 AL Game: Bsn. @ NY

September 9, 1949

 The New York Yankees dropped their first game of the series against the Boston Red Sox. After rain cancelled yesterday's game, the Yankees came out and won today's game 6-3. Eddie Lopat sailed along on the mound until the 9th inning when he needed help from Joe Page to close out the game. New York is now 1.5 games behind the 1st place Red Sox.

Catcher Yogi Berra had 2 base hits at Yankee Stadium as the potent New York
Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 6 to 3.
 
In the 2nd inning New York went on top for good scoring 2 runners on 3 hits.
Boston tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.  
 
Eddie Lopat(14-7) got the win allowing 3 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. Lopat got
help from Joe Page who earned his 18th save.  Ellis Kinder(14-10) was tagged
with the loss.  He allowed 6 runs and 8 hits in 7 innings.  
 
'It was a tough one to lose' said Joe McCarthy 'We'll get them next time out.'
