New York has won 7 in a row and 9 out of their last 10. The Yankees won the 1st game 9-8 in the 10th inning when Joe DiMaggio hit a walk-off RBI single. In the 2nd game, Vic Raschi earned his 22nd Win of the season with New York's 8-3 victory. Boston's Ellis Kinder went the distance in the Red Sox's 6-2 victory over the Tigers. New York now has a 1 game lead over Boston on top of the AL.

Gene Woodling blasted a homerun and had 4 RBI as the dominant New York Yankees
topped the struggling St. Louis Browns in 10 innings by a score of 9 to 8 at
Yankee Stadium.
The game was deadlocked at 8 after nine full innings. New York came out on
top in the 10th inning. Billy Johnson slapped a one-base hit. Two outs
later Bobby Brown stepped in and he hit a single. Joe Dimaggio then stroked
a base-hit resulting in a mighty exciting win for New York and the 40,140
home town fans in attendance. New York rapped out 15 hits for the afternoon.
The win was credited to Joe Page(7-6) who went 1 inning allowing no runs. Joe
Ostrowski(14-9) was charged with the loss in relief.

Bobby Brown had 4 hits and scored 3 times as the streaking New York Yankees
outscored the floundering St. Louis Browns 8 to 3.
New York wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they scored
4 runs on 3 hits. That was all the offense they were to need. New York
banged out 10 hits on the afternoon.
The winning pitcher was Vic Raschi(22-7) who allowed 3 runs in 8 and 2/3
innings. Ned Garver(14-10) was charged with the loss. He allowed 5 runs and
8 hits in 6 innings.
This win by New York continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten
games, they have a record of 9-1. For the season, they are a league leading
86-51. Zack Taylor was unhappy with his club's recent performance. 'We
can't keep losing games' he said. 'It gets to be embarrassing after a
while.'

Ellis Kinder went the distance as the Boston Red Sox bested the Detroit Tigers
6 to 2 at Fenway Park.
Detroit fell behind quickly as the Boston offense came through in the first
inning when they came up with 5 runs on 5 hits. That early scoring held up.
Boston had 11 hits for the afternoon.
The victory was credited to Kinder(15-10) who went the distance, allowing 2
runs. Hal Newhouser(20-13) was the loser. He surrendered 5 runs and 5 hits
in 2/3 of an inning.
