1949 AL Standings

  The Boston Red Sox still have a slight lead over the New York Yankees for 1st place in the AL after the month of August. Boston has had the most explosive offense this year and their pitching is 3rd in the league.  New York has had a mix of very good hitting and excellent pitching. The pennant race looks like it'll come down to the last week of the 1949 MLB season between these two teams. But you can't count out the Cleveland Indians. The Indians have the best pitching staff in the AL this year and could finish strong with a little more timely hitting. My Detroit Tigers faltered in August and are now 12 games behind.
