1949 NL News Recap

June 15, 1949

The Philadelphia Phillies can thank their 2nd place position in the NL Standings on Del Ennis (.292, 19, 50), and Wally Jones (.309, 9, 44) who are having a tremendous seasons at the plate, and on their starting pitchers Ken Heintzelman (8-2), Hank Borowy (8-1), and Russ Meyer (6-2).
The 1st place Dodgers have the top offense with Jackie Robinson (.421, 9, 460), and Carl Furillo (.356, 9, 360), along with Pee Wee Reese, Roy Campanella, and Duke Snider. It should be noted that Brooklyn is the only team in the NL that has set a priority on stealing bases too. They have 55 on the season, 39 more than the next best team.
