1949 AL Game: Det. @ St. Louis

July 6, 1949

  Detroit's Virgil Trucks threw his 3rd shutout in a row as the Tigers defeated the St. Louis Browns 7-0 tonight. Trucks actually carried a no-hitter into the 8th inning but lost that bid when pinch-hitter Whitey Platt singled leading off the inning. Virgil ended up with a 1 hit shutout, his 4th shutout of the season, and has now pitched 30 scoreless innings in a row.

Virgil Trucks took a no-hitter into the 8th inning as the Detroit Tigers
defeated the St. Louis Browns 7 to 0 at Sportsman's Park.
 
Trucks(10-5) came through with a virtuoso performance against the St. Louis
hitters.  He allowed only 1 hit and 5 walks in 9 innings.  The right-handed
Trucks had his no-hit bid broken up by Whitey Platt who singled with nobody
out in the 8th inning.  Detroit had 12 hits for the night.  
 
Karl Drews(2-5) was charged with the loss.  He pitched 5 innings giving up 7
hits and 2 walks.
