It's the 4th of July and just as in the NL, there were 4 doubleheaders played today. Nothing like spending the day at the ballpark! Only the doubleheader played between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees saw the teams split the 2 games. Vic Raschi earned his MLB leading 13th Win of the season as New York defeated Boston 6-2 in game 1. The Detroit Tigers were hosting the Cleveland Indians. Detroit pitchers Virgil Trucks and Hal Newhouser both threw 4-hit shutouts with the Tigers taking identical 2-0 victories. The other 2 doubleheaders also saw the hometown team taking both games. The fans in those cities had even more reason to celebrate Independence Day!
