1949 AL Game: Phi. @ Cle.

  The Cleveland Indians have been red hot as of late winning 12 games in a row. The Indians, behind the brilliant pitching of Satchel Paige (pictured) defeated the Philadelphia Athletics 2-1 in the 2nd game of a twin-bill. Cleveland took both games today and their winning streak has allowed them to move into a 1st place tie in the AL with the New York Yankees.

Satchel Paige went the distance as the sizzling Cleveland Indians defeated the
Philadelphia Athletics 2 to 1 at Municipal Stadium.
 
Cleveland brought 1 run across the plate in the bottom of the 3rd inning.
That was all the offense they were to need.  The pitchers took over after the
3rd inning as neither team was able to score again.  
 
Paige(4-1), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Carl
Scheib(4-4) was tagged with the loss.  He pitched 7 innings and surrendered 5
hits and 5 walks.
