1949 AL Game: Det. @ Phil.

 Detroit's Hal Newhouser and Philadelphia's Joe Coleman locked up in a pitching duel today at Shibe Park in Philadelphia. In the end, Newhouser and the Tigers came out on top 1-0. Detroit scored the game's only run in the 5th inning on a clutch RBI single by Johnny Lipon. Newhouser got into a no outs, bases loaded jam in the 8th inning but got out of it unscathed. For Newhouser, it was his AL leading 6th Win of the season.

Hal Newhouser tossed a complete game shutout at Shibe Park where the Detroit
Tigers beat the Philadelphia Athletics by the score of 1 to
0.
 
Newhouser(6-2) had a strong outing.  He allowed only 4 hits and 4 walks in 9
innings lowering his ERA from 3.15 to 2.74.  Philadelphia went down without a
fight in the bottom of the 9th.  
 
Joe Coleman(1-6) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 1 run and 6 hits in 8
innings.
