The month of May is in the books for the 1949 AL season. The New York Yankees went 17-8 in May and sit in 1st place. No team has looked forward to the Yankees coming to their ballparks with New York's formidable road record of 15-4. Cleveland and Boston also played well in May and look to be top contenders for the AL Pennant along with the Yankees. My Detroit Tigers have just come off a bad losing streak, with many of their loses (2-7 overall) coming at the hands of the surprising St. Louis Browns. The Browns have scored more runs than any team in the league so far this season. But they've also given up more runs than any team. If they could solve their pitching woes the Browns could be a threat.The Chicago White Sox have hit bottom, they hope, by losing their last 11 games in a row. Chicago went a dreadful 8-20 in May, mainly due to a meager offense.
