Third baseman Sid Gordon slammed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Sheldon Jones
completed the game without help from the bullpen as the New York Giants
crushed the slumping Chicago Cubs 19 to 1.
Gordon was a source of great heartache for the Chicago faithful all day. He
just kept pounding out hits! He ripped a single scoring a run in the 6th
inning, cracked a two-run shot in the 8th inning and delivered a solo blast
in the 9th inning. New York provided plenty of action in the 1st inning
tallying 4 runs, the 6th inning which saw them score 6 runs on 4 hits and the
8th inning when they had 4 runs on 3 hits. New York kept the pressure on
throughout the contest as they scored in 6 different innings.
Jones(5-2) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Bob Chipman(0-2)
was tagged with the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 6 runs in 4
and 2/3 innings.
The New York ballclub's record now stands at 15-17. Not able to get much
going in recent weeks, Chicago is 2-8 of late and now has an overall record
of 9-21, worst in the league.

Russ Meyer had a strong outing as the Philadelphia Phillies destroyed the
Cincinnati Reds by a score of 10 to 0 at Crosley Field.
Philadelphia promptly took the lead in their half of the first when they

out 10 hits on the night.
Johnny Vander Meer(1-3) was the loser. He allowed Philadelphia 8 runs in 6
and 1/3 innings of work. 'We didn't have a whole lot of chances tonight,'
Bucky Walters said. 'Meyer just was too much for our guys.'
