1949 NL News Recap and League Leaders

June 1, 1949

  League Leaders in the NL at the end of May: Brooklyn's Jackie Robinson continues to lead the NL with a .392 BA. Philadelphia's Del Ennis (16,43)and Pittsburgh's Ralph Kiner (14,34) are battling for the top spot in HR and RBI. New York's Sheldon Jones and Boston's Vern Bickford lead the NL in Wins with 6. Jones is also 1st in K's. Pittsburgh's Murry Dickson has pitched extremely well this season and is tops in the NL with a 1.59 ERA, but his record is 3-5 due to lack of run support when he is on the mound.
