1949 World Series Game 2

October 6, 1949

It was a slugfest in Game 2 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium today. When the dust settled it was the Brooklyn Dodgers that came out on top by a lopsided score of 17-7. Similarly to Game 1 after taking an early 3-0 lead, the Brooklyn Dodgers saw the New York Yankees come back with 4 runs in the 4th to grab a 4-3 lead. But in this game the Dodgers didn't lay down. In the 6th inning Brooklyn put 11 runs on the scoreboard. Roy Campanella hit a grand slam homerun and Pee Wee Reese added a 2-run shot in the inning. Even after pitching poorly, Don Newcombe, who was pinch hit for in the 6th, ended up with the Win for Brooklyn. Yankee ace Vic Raschi was hit hard and took the loss. The Series now moves to Brooklyn for the next 3 games tied up 1-1.
