The slate of games scheduled for today included the Home Opener for the Cleveland Indians. Cleveland won their first 3 games on the road to start the season and came home on top of the AL as the only undefeated team in the league.
My Detroit Tigers came into Cleveland with a 2-1 record and proceeded to spoil the Indian's Home Opener by defeating them 10-7. Walks and errors led to both starters getting chased early in the game. Detroit put 6 runs on the scoreboard in the 2nd inning with just 3 hits and Cleveland came back with 5 runs in the 3rd on 3 hits. The Tiger's George Kell went 3 for 5 and had 3 RBI. Dizzy Trout, in relief, pitched 4 scoreless innings for the Win. *of note*: 42 year old Satchel Paige threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings for the Indians.

George Kell had 3 base hits and 3 RBI as the Detroit Tigers bested the
Cleveland Indians 10 to 7 at Municipal Stadium.

The key offensive moment was provided by Kell who quieted the crowd when he
doubled which was good for two runs. Detroit had 14 hits overall, while
Cleveland had 8.

Allie Reynolds was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game at Fenway Park where the New York Yankees beat the Boston Red
Sox by the score of 7 to 2.
Hank Bauer enjoyed a big day at the plate. He smashed a two-run homer in the
5th inning and delivered a base-hit which was good for two runs in the 8th
inning. New York banged out 9 hits on the afternoon.
Reynolds(1-0), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Tex
Hughson(0-1) absorbed the loss. He gave up 5 runs and 4 hits in 5 innings.

Athletics beat the Washington Senators 10 to 1.
Philadelphia claimed the early lead in the first inning plating an isolated
run on 2 hits. For the game Philadelphia out-hit Washington 17 to 4.
Carl Scheib(1-0) got the win allowing 1 run in 8 and 2/3 innings. Mickey
Haefner(0-1) suffered the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 15 hits and 4
walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.

Jerry Priddy had 4 hits and 2 RBI and Red Embree pitched a complete game as
the St. Louis Browns defeated the Chicago White Sox 5 to 2 at Comiskey
Park.
St. Louis went ahead for good in the 3rd inning when they came up with 2 runs
on 3 hits. St. Louis and Chicago each finished the afternoon with 11 hits.
Embree(1-0) allowed 2 runs on the game. Marino Pieretti(0-1) was the losing
pitcher. He surrendered 4 runs and 6 hits in 4 and 1/3 innings.

Del Rice had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals won at Sportsman's
Park in dramatic fashion over the Chicago Cubs, the final score, 9 to 8.
The deciding run was scored by St. Louis in the bottom of the 9th. Red
Schoendienst ripped a one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Stan Musial
came to bat and drew a walk. Nippy Jones then slapped a single resulting in
a mighty exciting win for St. Louis and the 21,459 home town fans in
attendance. St. Louis had many opportunities throughout the game and scored
in 6 separate innings.
The victory went to Bill Reeder(1-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs.
Warren Hacker(0-1) took the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings
allowing 5 hits and 2 walks.

Bob Chesnes carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Pittsburgh Pirates
won a heart-stopping victory over the Cincinnati Reds, 8 to 7.
The game was won by Pittsburgh with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning.
Johnny Hopp laced a one-base hit. Dixie Walker next to the plate and he
smacked a single. Ralph Kiner then delivered a base-hit giving Pittsburgh
the win much to the delight of the home town crowd. Pittsburgh and
Cincinnati each finished the afternoon with 11 hits.
The victory was credited to Hugh Casey(1-0) who went 1/3 of an inning,
allowing no runs. The right-handed Chesnes lost his no-hit bid when Virgil
Stallcup singled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Ken Burkhart(0-1) was
the loser in relief.
