Warren Spahn blanked New York in a very well-pitched complete game as the
Boston Braves defeated the New York Giants by a score of 1 to 0 at Polo
Grounds.

Spahn(2-0) gave Boston a solid outing. He allowed only 5 hits and 2 walks in
9 innings dropping his ERA from 1.00 to 0.50. New York made it exciting in
the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Monte Kennedy(0-1) was the loser. He pitched 8 innings giving up 4 hits and 4
walks. 'Some losses are harder to take than others' Leo Durocher lamented
after the game. 'This was one of them.'
